Summertime Gardening: Water once a day, weed once a week!
It's the end of July, and for the avid gardener (aka, "fanatic"), planting time is over and all of the new perennials & annual flowering plants have been added to the garden, the weeding schedule is setup for once per week, and gosh darn it, things are actually starting to grow!
Miracle of miracles, the happy days have arrived when the only yard work you have on the schedule is watering your garden and lawn once per day (evening for preference in my yard) and weeding the flower beds + mowing the lawn once per week (Sundays).
If your grass is patchy, despite your best efforts to over-seed or fertilize, don't despair. Keep mowing, feed your lawn once a month, and when the cool weather of September arrives, you can thatch, aerate, and over-seed the lawn once more, leaving it to fill in over the course of a few weeks without mowing. During the heat of Midsummer is not really the best time to sow grass seed, so don't worry about it - chill out, keep mowing, and do a single application of turfbuilder + weed killer to feed the grass and keep the weeds down, water it in thoroughly, then keep watering once a day in the hot weather - unless it's raining, of course!
Now is the time to relax, kick back in your garden or on your patio, and enjoy the result of your hard work this past spring. Don't forget the lemons for your iced tea! Happy summertime, everybody! Have fun!
